We decided to focus on this disaster because we have all in a way been affected by teen pregnancy. Teen pregnancy has become an epidemic among young women and can have a huge affect on a teenagers life. A survey in 2011 states that 3 in 10 teenage American girls will have at least one pregnancy before they are 20. In 2014 there were 249,078 teenage babies born by girls age 15-19. In Kentucky alone there were 4,877 babies born from teenage pregnancies in 2014. Kentucky spent $378 million on unplanned pregnancies. Having a baby changes your whole life, so to make such a drastic lifestyle choice as a teenager affects the rest of your life. Most teenage mothers cannot afford to move onto higher education after high school or sometimes cant even complete high school.

More than 50% of teenage mothers drop out of high school. So we decided to utilize this opportunity to raise awareness of how detrimental a teenage pregnancy can be. Another staggering fact that 25% of teenage mothers have a second child within 2 years. And Sadly less than 2% of teen moms earn a college degree by the age of 30. Recently teenage pregnancy has declined somewhat, but it is still an issue among youths in America. It not only has an affect on the young ladies but the young men involved as well as their families and friends. It can also have a serious affect on the children produced from the teenage pregnancy. These children are more likely to be involved in a teenage pregnancy once they are in high school. We are seeking to raise awareness and help bring teenage pregnancy to an all time low by warning teenagers against the dangers of an unplanned pregnancy and if they are going to have sex to take proper precautions and practice safe sex by using contraceptives or even abstinence.
